First goat kids of 2019
Mandolin Creek Goats has its first kids of 2019. Our first group of does delivered their kids during the last week of January. Congratulations go out to Sky, Vicky, Maybelliene, and Lil Miss!
January Kids
Seven live kids were delivered among the above does. Several kids arrived weak and died within 24 hours, despite our efforts to take measures to save them. In the end, a single kid survived out of each doe. These have been pulled to be raised in our kid shack. In their picture here, their names (front to back) are Travis (Alpine x Nubian buckling), Tucker (Alpine x Nubian buckling), Tutti (Alpine x LaMancha doeling), and Tommy (purebred Alpine buckling).
If you would like to reserve one of our goats for milk, meat, or more, please contact us and let us know your interest.
Production Report
In the milking parlor, Sky (Alpine) and Vicky (LaMancha) have shown their experience with the milking stand, and they have been easy to milk. As first fresheners, Maybelliene and Lil Miss have yet to accept that milking relieves the uncomfortable pressure that builds in their bags, so they have been putting up quite a struggle on the stand.
The does have begun producing milk for the dairy. Sky presently gives around two quarts, while Vicky is giving one, and the other two give a little over a cup each.
